Regulations governing the scattering of ashes at sea
Disposal of cinerary ashes at sea is authorized if it complies with maritime regulations and is carried out more than 300 meters from the coast (decree 2007-328 and law 2008-1350-16 on funeral legislation). It is, however, forbidden in a river or on the beach.
It is also possible to immerse the urn containing the ashes. In this case, the urn must be immersed more than 3 miles from the coast, and you must choose a biodegradable funeral urn (made of salt, cardboard, etc.).
After cremation, the family must declare the date and place of scattering to the town hall of the deceased’s birthplace.
Service
The service is available from the marinas of Le Havre and Trouville-sur-mer. It lasts an hour, with around 40 to 45 minutes spent at sea.
The price is €400 incl. VAT.
We ask you to provide us with a copy of the cremation certificate, a copy of the death certificate and a copy of the identity document of the person legally responsible for the scattering.
After the service, we will provide you with a declaration of completion of the scattering of ashes at sea.
